Protein skimmers work by injecting millions of micro-bubbles into a column of water that is pumped from your aquarium. Upon contact with the air bubbles, the dissolved organic compounds (DOC's) in the water adhere to the surface of the micro-bubbles and eventually rise to the top of the unit where they are gathered in the collection cup. Clean water is then pumped back into the system.

Removal of DOC's is best achieved by the bubbles maximum time suspended in the column of water. The NAUTILUS TE™ accomplishes this by a clever water injection design that makes it suitable for up to a 300 gallon aquarium.
